ROMAN GALLIC G
"Bells & Whistles" Model
This helmet is based fairly closely on an original example of the "Type
G" variation. It has a lot of similarities to the Gallic J
that I also offer, but there are a number of differences in the
details. Most notably, the neck guard is smaller and much
flatter. This necessitates adding some extra grill-work
underneath for safety reasons. Its cheek-plates are also
shaped differently, and there are several other minor differences.
This helmet has all of the salient design features of the original,
including a properly tenoned brow reinforce bar, embossed eyebrow wings
and cheek-plates, a stepped neck guard, reeded brass brow-band, and
crest mounts. These features are all standard. An
optional brass carry handle can be installed at the center of the neck
guard for additional cost.
This helmet comes standard with a buffed polish.
The example shown here has some modifications
made at the request of the client. The grill-work has been
powder-coated matte black to reduce glare and minimize their
appearance. The cheek-plates are not embossed
(though they do have a stepped ridge running parallel to the flange)
and there are no crest mounts. There are some photos below
that show an older model that does have these features, and also the
brass carry-handle.
Showing an older model helmet that has embossed
cheeks and crest-mounts (in this case the tie-rings are mounted at the
sides "centurion style" instead of the more usual front and back
locations). It also has the optional carry-handle
installed. Note the old-style ear cut-out, which has been
much improved on the newer models.
