BOTTELS, KESTRELS AND OTHER LEATHER VESSELS

Various names have been used for different shapes of leather vessels such as these, including the following:

Bottle, Bottel or Flask: Various types, usually upright forms
Jug: Very generally, larger forms of upright containers
Kestrel, Costrel or Tudor Keg: Barrel-shaped forms, usually a 5-piece pattern
Bombard: Large pitcher-like forms
Jack or Blackjack: Ale-mug shapes, with or without handles, sometimes with lids Canteen: Indiscriminate

These are completely hand-made of heavy 10-14 oz vegetable tanned leather. They are double
stitched and lined with brewer's pitch. The stoppers are turned oak, and both the stoppers
and vessels have holes for lanyards or carrying staps. Your choice of color. Please note that
the listed capacities are approximate, as each one is unique.

Each comes with a set of care instructions. Due to the brewer's pitch lining, these are NOT for
hot liquids!

I've finally added keg-style containers (kestrels or costrels) to the line, and I still plan to make jacks, or leather ale mugs.
